Good Friday - Third Hour
"What right has my beloved in my house, when she has done vile deeds? Can vows and sacrificial flesh avert your doom? Can you then exult? The LORD once called you, `A green olive tree, fair with goodly fruit'; but with the roar of a great tempest he will set fire to it, and its branches will be consumed. The LORD of hosts, who planted you, has pronounced evil against you, because of the evil which the house of Israel and the house of Judah have done, provoking me to anger by burning incense to Ba'al."
The LORD made it known to me and I knew;
then thou didst show me their evil deeds.
But I was like a gentle lamb
led to the slaughter.
I did not know it was against me
they devised schemes, saying,
"Let us destroy the tree with its fruit,
let us cut him off from the land of the living,
that his name be remembered no more."
But, O LORD of hosts, who judgest righteously,
who triest the heart and the mind,
let me see thy vengeance upon them,
for to thee have I committed my cause.
Jeremiah 11:15-20
"I have forsaken my house,
I have abandoned my heritage;
I have given the beloved of my soul
into the hands of her enemies.
My heritage has become to me
like a lion in the forest,
she has lifted up her voice against me;
therefore I hate her.
Is my heritage to me like a speckled bird of prey?
Are the birds of prey against her round about?
Go, assemble all the wild beasts; bring them to devour."
Jeremiah 12:7-9

Jeremiah 12:7-9
Then the soldiers of the governor, having taken Jesus to the Praetorium, gathered the whole garrison around Him. And having stripped Him, twisted a crown out of thorns and put it on His head, and they put a purple robe around Him. (Matt. 27:27-28a; John 19:2b) They put a scarlet robe on Him. When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And kneeling before Him, they mocked Him, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!" (Matt. 27:28b-29) And they were striking Him with their hands. (John 19:3b) And spitting on Him, they took the reed and were striking Him on His head. (Matt. 27:30) Pilate then went out again, and said to them, "Behold, I am bringing Him out to you, so that you may know that I find no fault in Him." Then Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. And Pilate said to them, "Behold, the Man!" Therefore, when the chief priests and the attendants saw Him, they cried out, saying, "Crucify, crucify Him!" Pilate said to them, "You take Him and crucify Him, for I find no fault in Him." The Jews answered him, "We have a law, and according to our law He ought to die, because He made Himself the Son of God." Therefore, when Pilate heard this saying, he was even more afraid, and he entered into the Praetorium again, and said to Jesus, "Where are You from?" But Jesus gave him no answer. Then Pilate said to Him, "Are You not speaking to me? Do You not know that I have authority to crucify You, and I have authority to release You?" Jesus answered, "You would have no authority at all against Me unless it had been given to you from above. Therefore the one who betrayed Me to you has a greater sin."
From this point Pilate was seeking to release Him, but the Jews kept crying out, saying, "If you release this Man, you are no friend of Caesar's. Whoever makes himself a king speaks against Caesar." Therefore Pilate, having heard this saying, led Jesus outside and sat down on the judgment seat in a place that is called The Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha. Now it was the Preparation Day of the Passover, and about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, "Behold your King!" But they cried out, "Away with Him, away with Him! Crucify Him!" Pilate said to them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The chief priests answered, "We have no king but Caesar!" Then he delivered Him to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus and led Him away. (John 19:4-16) And when they had mocked Him, they stripped Him of the robe, and dressed Him in His own clothes. (Matt. 27:31a) So they took Jesus and led Him away.
And bearing His cross, He went out. (John 19:16b, 17a) And led Him out so that they might crucify Him. (Mark 15:20b) Now it was the third hour. (Mark 15:25a)
And going out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name. Him they pressed into service that he might carry His cross. (Matt. 27:32) And on him they laid the cross, that he might carry it behind Jesus. And a great multitude of the people followed Him, and women who also were mourning and lamenting Him. But Jesus, turning to them, said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. For behold, the days are coming in which they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, and the wombs which did not give birth, and breasts which did not nurse!' Then they will begin 'to say to the mountains, "Fall on us!" and to the hills, "Cover us!"' For if they do these things in the green tree, what will happen in the dry?" And they also were leading two others with Him, evildoers, to be put to death. (Luke 23:26b-32) And coming to a place called Golgotha, that is to say, Place of a Skull, they gave Him sour wine mingled with gall to drink. But having tasted it, He would not drink. (Matt. 27:33,34)
